A Guide for Purchasing Waist Trainers

April 8, 2019 by Tim Mckinney

Waist trainers are becoming quite popular among the ladies nowadays. Owing to their effectiveness, men have started ordering them as well. In simplest terms, they are garments wrapped around the waist to make the waist appear slimmer. With regular use, they can also lead to permanent waist size reduction. If you are new to waist training and out looking for your first waist trainer to buy, your task is far from easy! With so many companies that manufacture waist trainers and such a wide variety of this product available, it will be difficult for you to make a decision. It is for this reason that I am writing this article for you to keep a few things in mind when buying a waist trainer.

Purpose:

You need to be clear why you plan on buying a waist trainer. You could be buying it either to wear it occasionally under your dress to give a slimming effect or for regular use as part of the waist training regime to achieve long-lasting fitness goals. There are two basic types of waist trainers available: corsets and cinchers. If you want instantaneous slimming effect, corsets would work. If you want one for regular use, cinchers allow more room for movement and can be worn during exercise. However they do not produce as dramatic instantaneous slimming effect as the corsets do.

Material:

Waist trainers come with different types of fabrics. High quality waist cinchers are mostly made with latex because of its durability and compression. Some are made from cotton as well to make it lightweight and cooler, more suitable for warm weather. Then there are steel boned corsets with cotton, polyester or satin, reinforced with steel boning to provide structure.

Size:

Sizing is crucial to waist training. Waist trainers will only be effective if you get the right size. A size too small will be detrimental to your health while a size too big will be ineffective and uncomfortable. To select the right size, measure your natural waist size and order a waist trainer that is not more than 4 to 7 inches smaller than your natural waist. If, however, you are buying it for fashion to wear it occasionally or for back support purchase waist trainer that is 3 to 5 inches smaller than your natural waist.

Length:

Different waist trainers are available to fit different torso lengths. To measure your torso, start measuring from under one of your breasts and measure the length up to where the leg bends when you sit. For torso lengths between 9 to 11 inches, standard length of waist trainer would work fine. For torso length smaller than that, select a short waist trainer. For a torso length that is greater, select a ‘longline’ waist trainer.

Underbust or Overbust Waist Trainer:

Waist trainers are either underbust (which start from under your busts and go all the way down to over your hips) or overbust (which cover your busts along with your torso). If you are a woman with heavy busts, overbust waist trainer would work better for you, giving support to your busts and taking the burden off your shoulders and busts. Underbust waist trainers are more suitable for workout as they allow more movement.
